Officials have confirmed at least one death from the cyclone in Florida. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the 72-year-old was found dead in a canal behind his home early Thursday in Deltona, near Daytona Beach. Another Florida sheriff said he thought the death toll would be in the hundreds. At the same time, two people died in Cuba due to the cyclone.

Search and rescue operation continues

Federal Emergency Management Agency administrator Dean Criswell said the agency was assisting with the search and rescue operation. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno told ABC Channel that her office has been receiving hundreds of calls from the county for help, but is facing problems with roads and bridges being lost. The National Cyclone Center (NHC) said Ian intensified into a tropical storm early Thursday and is likely to emerge as a hurricane over Atlantic waters near the Kennedy Space Center later in the day.

Cyclone Ian's next stop is South Carolina

It has been forecast that the next stop of the cyclone will be in South Carolina, America. In Port Charlotte, off the coast of Florida, the cyclone caused waterlogging on the ground floor of a hospital and damaged the roof of the fourth floor where the ICU is located. A doctor working in the hospital gave this information. Dr Barjit Bodine, who works at HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte, said on Wednesday that water reached the hospital's ICU, causing critically ill patients to be evacuated and some of them to other floors.

Ian caused massive destruction in the Florida peninsula on Wednesday. There was a situation of heavy flooding here. Due to the impact of Cyclone 'Ian', heavy rain was recorded in the area up to Florida and the southeast Atlantic coast.
